Donald B. Rix, M.D. O.B.C.
Dr. Donald Rix is a widely recognized member within the medical community.
As director of the B.C. Children’s Hospital Foundation, he is active in
provincial and national medical associations, a member of several research
foundations, and included in fellowships at four medical colleges and
societies. In addition, he is also a successful businessman, philanthropist,
and dedicated volunteer.
Dr. Rix has long been involved in the development of science of technology,
currently a member of the Premier’s Technology Council and sitting on
various associated research boards. He has represented British Columbia and
the Canadian government many times on science and technology research
missions to Asia as Chairperson of the Innovation and Science Council of
B.C. and head of the International Committee.
Dr. Rix has also been a prominent figure in education for over
twenty-five years, serving in numerous capacities at the top
institutions in British Columbia. At the British Columbia Institute of
Technology, he lectured, was the past Chairperson of the Board of
Governors and the Foundation board. Now, at Simon Fraser University, Dr.
Rix is the Chairman of the Council of the Segal Centre of Graduate
Management Studies, a member of the President’s Club and a board member
of the Morris J. Wosk Centre for Dialogue. |

At the
University of British Columbia, he is a lifetime member of the President’s
Circle, an Emeritus Status Clinical Professor in the Department of Pathology
and Laboratory Medicine, and an Honorary Medical Alumnus in the Medical
Alumni Society. Dr. Rix is also a member of the Board of Governors at the
University of Northern British Columbia, serving on various committees.
Dr. Rix and his family are active supporters of the arts community,
including the Vancouver Art Gallery, Vancouver Opera and the Vancouver
Summer Musical Festival, of which he is the current President of the board.
The Rix family has donated millions of dollars in support of education,
health and the arts in British Columbia.
